Messerschmitt Me109g

Me109g

The Me109G, or "Gustav", was nicknamed "the Bulge" by its pilots, as the tiny airframe had accumulated all sorts of bumps and bulges as Willy Messerschmitt sought to add more horsepower and larger guns to the aging design. It was the most produced version of the 109, but had begun to lose the pleasant handling qualities of its older models and was eventually outclassed by newer allied aircraft.

Messerschmitt Bf109 is a beautifully illustrated technical history of the Me109. Artwork by Rikyu Watanabe.

IL-2 Sturmovik is one of the best combat flight sims ever made, and a great way to experience what it was like to fly the Me109.
